Trigger warning for calling out on asinine privileged parallels drawn during Occupy protests:

I’m a little put off by some Occupy protesters who have the ignorant audacity to compare the treatment they’ve received from the police with the treatment they’ve given to those in “third world countries.” Reality check time: The treatment given to you by your police will never be equivalent to the treatment your government gave to those in third world countries. Apaches, IEDS, bombs, torture, drones were and are involved. You’re getting mace and rubber bullets for now. That said, I saw loaded rifles in a few images and tanks in one city which shows how dangerously militarized the US police is but they haven’t been used yet. And I hope to God they aren’t in the future. You don’t want to know how it feels to receive the “third world treatment.”

Drawing comparisons that are unfair and unrealistic only plays in favor of those who will continue to call you “spoiled hipsters” and “lazy college students.” You have media sources helping you in calling a spade a spade. Use your head.

I support your movement and agenda and I wish you more strength but cut down on the damn hyperbole. It’s pissing us folks off in the third world countries.
